Jennifer Hall

sustainability advocateA beekeeper, gardener, sideline heritage hog farmer, composter, one-time hunter, wild salmon advocate, Jennifer works toward a healthy planet, one forkful at a time. In January 2011 she completed five years of service on the USDA National Organic Standards Board. She has served on the national Slow Food Biodiversity Committee and is the co-founder and leader of Spokane, Washington’s Slow Food group, creating and hosting events that share the region’s bounty, encouraging participants to become more involved in their food supply. Jennifer works with sustainable farmers to promote good stewardship practices.

Through a series of “Eat With Your Eyes” farm tours, book groups and food films, she helps people learn about food choices that benefit them personally, as well as the land, water and animals that make eating possible. This work, and Jennifer’s many years of experience in the food service business, informed the opening of Spokane’s only consumer food co-op in January 2010. She recently began work on Fresh Food in Schools, a project to take the conversation to the next generation of eaters, farmers and policy makers.
