Velina Brown

Host Narrator Velina BrownVelina Brown is an award-winning actress, singer/songwriter, and director whose artistic home is the oldest political theatre company in the United States; the San Francisco Mime Troupe. She has also appeared on stage at the American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Magic Theatre, TheatreWorks, SF Playhouse, The Denver Theatre Center, and many others. Some of her feature film credits include Bee Season, Maladaptive, One Way to Valhalla, and Milk. You may have also seen her on television shows such as Party of Five, Nash Bridges, and Trauma.

As a 20-year veteran and core member of the SF Mime Troupe, Velina has collaborated extensively on developing new work that informs and inspires as well as entertains. She has traveled widely across the US as well as to Europe and Asia with her family as a child and as an adult with the Mime Troupe. She loves learning about cultures and customs through dance, music and, of course, food!

Working on Kiss the Cook and the Farmer Too brings Velina back to her many childhood summers spent with her grandparents on their farm in Alabama. She learned where food comes from and what it’s like to pick collard greens, cabbage, snap peas, butter beans, okra, corn, squash, and the most amazing tomatoes and have them for dinner. “Yep, I know what a real tomato tastes like!” She looks forward to learning more and sharing about how to eat well and live in harmony with the earth.
